STORY:

A four-year-old boy embarks on a journey of a lifetime when he encounters a magical garden in his backyard, which enables him to travel back in time. He meets his relatives from different eras, including his mother as a little girl and his great-grandfather as a young man, under the guidance of his younger sister from the future. These fantasy-filled adventures allow him to cope with her arrival in the family, change his perspective and become the big brother he was meant to be.

BIO:

Mamoru Hosoda is a Japanese film director and animator. Formerly employed at Toei Animation, he worked at Madhouse until 2011 and went on to establish his own animation studio, Studio Chizu. He first came to public attention in the early 2000s with the first two films in the Digimon Adventure series. In the late 2000s, he diversified more with other films, including 2006 The Girl Who Leapt Through Time and 2012 Wolf Children. Family is a recurring theme in his films.
