Aniara, a spaceship carrying settlers from a destroyed Earth to their new home, Mars, is knocked off course by an asteroid, causing them to continue their journey through an empty and cold universe forever. As the ship drifts away, they slowly realize they will never be able to return. Earth is now but a bitter memory of their worst failures. The Swedish Nobel Prize winner Harry Martinsson wrote the science fiction poem Aniara in 1956, but it has never before been filmed. It is a story that, now more than ever, raises the alarm of mankind’s impending doom – there is only one Earth. A new home my prove not to be so forgiving.
Pella Kagerman and Hugo Lilja are co-directors and writers, known for Aniara (2018) and The Swedish Supporter (2011).
